North Island, New Zealand

North Island is one of the two main islands of New Zealand. It is the world's 14th largest island with a population of 3,366,100. With Auckland ("The City of Sails" ) as its largest city, North Island constitutes over 76% of the country's population. In contrary to South Island's beautiful alps and adventures, North Island ranges from lushful sceneries to Lord of the Ring landscape and active volcanic peaks. According to the Māori mythology, the island was created after the demigod Māui's brothers chopped a fish he caught during a fishing trip.
